Round 3, and a good weekend for Kyle and the Borja Sport Team Kawasaki at Jerez in southern Spain. A good solid ride earned him a 5th place result in the Stock Extreme round. Qualifying 8th on Saturday an average start on Sunday placed him in 10th after the first lap, slowly picking off who he could confidently saw Kyle work his way up to 5th place including beating the Spanish works Kawasaki team !, Sponsors and team delighted again, Kyle now getting talked about in the paddock. !

Next Round, July 11th Motorland.

SuperStock Extreme. Round 2 Albacete

Round 2 Albacete brought better luck for Kyle and the Borja Sport Team Kawasaki.

With a new Ohlins suspension system in place the team had a chance to make up some ground after a mechanical disaster ridden 1st round.

First real ride on the bike and Kyle qualified a comfortable 10th after a minor crash,

Race day and after a few unsettling incidents Kyle settled in to the race and worked his way consistently up to 8th position, a nagging bout of arm pump hampered any more progression however the team and sponsors ‘Wild Wolf’ were delighted with his result.

Next round June 13th Jerez.

SuperStock Extreme. Round 1 Barcelona.

The first round in Barcelona started with big disappointment for the team, countless attempts to fix a rear suspension unit failed, even by the suspension technician. Kyle managed to finish 16th as the rear shocker broke during the race once again !!

Kyle becomes ‘Ninja Cup’ Spanish Champion’

Kyle brought his Kawasaki 600 to another impressive win at the last round in Valencia, not just a good day for a win but he has also Won the Spanish national ‘Ninja Cup’ Championship. The October round at Catalonia saw Kyle elbowed off the track only to pull back from 11th place to finish 4th. that disappointing weekend had no effect on his performance in Valencia (last race of the season) where he took control from the start like he had in two previous races and with a 7 second lead paced him self perfectly and took the 2009 championship. This opens up some nice opportunities for next year with 3 offers for national status rides next season, more news to follow.

New National Race Series for Kyle

Sorry for the delay in news with Kyle’s racing progress. an unsure start to the season was part reason, however the story goes:

Team Aspar excluded Kyle from the CEV national team due to the countries credit crunch like ours, also a crash and injury filled season didn’t help, so a race series was needed.

His manager Juan Borga chose the Ninja Cup. Kawasaki 600’s racing in a national series along the CEV. A lesser series but still a recognised class.

Race 1 was at Albacete and only receiving the bike 2 days before Kyle managed a 5th place result.

Race 2, Jerez southern Spain. Kyle got an unmistakable clear win delighting the team and surprising the competition.

Race 3, Valencia, and another win with a lead of 10 seconds. things looking up.

Next round September.

Team boss Juan is trying to negotiating a ride in the last round of the European super-stock 600 race in Portugal to raise his profile.

Moving up through the MotoX ranks Kyle went from 50cc to 65cc in 2002, by which time he became 65cc champion of Valencia at the age of 11 and also won the Supercross championship of Valencia,

The following year when his legs would reach he moved up to 80cc ’small wheel’ class, Kyle got invited to join the Valencia/Catalan MotoX Team riding Suzuki, a three man junior team to which Kyle of course was the junior, this took the family all around Spain to compete in a national series which they enjoyed many top three finishes, this moved Kyle onto Large wheel 80cc class which he struggled to start the season as he was a slightly under sized kid for his age never the less winning the years sub championship in his class.

Huddersfield born Kyle Smith started his 2 wheel career age 5 when his Dad (Gary) bought him the children’s favorite the PeeWee . . . a Yamaha PW50 auto. Gary spent some of his youth racing two wheels both dirt and tarmac and was a tough competitor, this was his passion and was always going to influence the next in line !!

So the family started trekking round the local MotoX circuits spanning Yorkshire and Lancaster riding with various MotoX clubs, his first trophy came the same year for ‘best up and coming rider’ Kyle showed good form and had a natural feel to riding the bike although he always looked smaller than the other kids but this didn’t stop him.

Family Relocation

At the age of 7 Kyle’s family decided to up roots and move to Spain, within a year he and his older sister Stacey were both fluent in Spanish and were mixing with local life through school and sports, Gary and Lorraine searched out the local MotoX clubs and circuits in the region and entered Kyle into the events.
